The Operator and Operative are two of several hand held tactical flashlights made by Laser Devices,of Monterey, California . These lights are specifically designed for use by tactical operations personnel in the full gamut of Military as well as non-Military market sectors. They are specialized personal illumination devices intended to be hand held as well as weapons mounted. Indeed, in addition to being amongst the most rugged and effective illuminators in hand-held scenarios, they are also very well thought out in terms of mountability to handguns as well as SMGs and Rifles. Thanks to a modular design that allows for both head and tailpiece exchangeability, the end user can tailor the illumination head as well as the tailpiece switch to match the required task and mission. Both the Operator (OP6) and Operative (OV1) use two CR123 3V Lithium Batteries to power a single 4.8V High Pressure Xenon incandescent bulb. As such they are unregulated - delivering a steadily diminishing beam brightness with full effect for the first 60-90 minutes of use. The key differences between these closely related products are in prime function which in turn has dictated some subtle design differences. The Operator (OP6) is primarily intended to be weapons mounted. As such it's not offered with a pocket clip or any manner of attachment to a lanyard. In addition, its head is wider than that of the Operative (OV1)- to accommodate a larger reflector. This translates into a brighter and farther throwing hotspot. The Operative (OV1) on the other hand, is more compact and pocket friendly, being primarily intended for hand holdability, especially in the Harries or Surefire/Rogers grips.
